Jan is known for her pen and ink drawings and her colored pencil drawing of birds, animals and plants of the Southwestern U.S.

Her work has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque, NM.

Costa’s Hummingbird

 

In the desert areas of the southwestern U.S, the Costa’s hummingbird may be seen hovering and darting among the flowers. The male has a striking purple gorget and crown. He is one of the few hummingbirds which have irridescent feathers on the top of the head.
