Physical therapist Suzanne Thomas recently returned from Fort Sill in Lawton, OK, where she completed a tour of duty to replace a physical therapist deployed to Iraq.

She has re-opened her clinic, formerly named Millennium Physical Therapy, under the new name of Desert Springs Physical Therapy in the same location at 310 West 11th Street in Silver City, NM.

To help her celebrate her return, the Silver City - Grant County Chamber Of Commerce sponsored an after hours event on Thursday, April 26, at the clinic.

The place was packed with doctors, friends, Chamber members and other health-care professionals for the entire evening.

Special door prizes were awarded throughout the night, including massages from Elemental Day Spa, a $50 gift certificate from Diane’s Restaurant and two $20 gift certificates from St. Clair Vineyards.

Plenty of good food, drink, music, stimulating conversation, fun and networking were found in abundance!

Thomas said, “I served 12 months on active duty and although it has been a hardship having to close my business, it has been a valuable experience in working with active-duty physical therapists and staff. I learned a great deal in a very short period of time.”

Most clients seen in the clinic where she served have either training-related or minor musculoskeletal injuries not received in training, she said.

Occasionally, soldiers who served in Iraq are treated at the facility, although the severely injured are typically sent to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC or Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

“I am excited to be back in Silver City and serving my community”, said Thomas. “I intend to use some of my newly acquired skills in my practice.”

“I also feel like this is a new start for me and our new name of Desert Springs Physical Therapy helps to bring that to reality.”
